We were invited by this organisation to carry out work to their Appliance Bay Floors. After numerous meetings and resin flooring trials on the client’s floors we specified and applied a Sika based resin coating system with a fine anti-slip surface in a mid-grey colour. The level of anti-slip was extremely important as the appliances were usually wet after being out on call and there were always spillages on the station flooring. Health and safety of the fire personnel was paramount in these situations when rushing around before and after fire shouts.
When the organisation merged with another service our business with the client increased considerably over a larger geographical area. Furthermore, we were asked to look at alternative systems under their policy of continuous improvement. One of their requirements was to have minimal disruption during the laying of the floor and to ensure the appliances could be parked back in their bays at night for security reasons. With this in mind we undertook an appraisal of the available products in the marketplace and consulted with suppliers to find the most suitable replacement. We decided on a fast cure MMA system laid at a thickness of 4-5mm. The grey coloured quartz integrated within the product provided a uniform colour throughout and a durability to withstand the weight of the appliances parked on the floors. This system has now been adopted as the ‘go to’ product for all stations throughout the region and Surface Systems Ltd has completed over forty five projects for the client since 2004.
