How To Soundproof a Concrete Floor

How it Works

The first layer of a resin floor bonds with the underlying surface (the substrate) and is known as the primer.

A strong bond is critical for a floor’s durability.

The next layer – the body coat – determines many of the floor’s properties and can range in thickness from a few millimetres to more than a centimetre.

The final layer, the seal, is vital for both the external appearance of the floor and its resistance to physical impact, chemicals, heat, and other surface threats.

These three components make it impossible for sound to escape below or above the floor perimeter.

Used in a range of commercial buildings and construction projects, these soundproofing flooring solutions are extremely effective at coping with airborne noise transmission, without the need for additional soundproofing layers.

However, impact sound transmission still needs to be dealt with, in order to meet the demands of Part E Building Regulations, resistance to the passage of sound, July 2003 and BB93 Acoustic Design of Schools (min requirement 17dB).
