Pharmaceutical Warehouse & Distribution Centre

Warehouse Resin Flooring - Commercial & Industrial Specialists - Surface Systems South West

In this project we were approached by a main contractor based in the West Midlands, who carries out renovation and new build work at a number of a national pharmaceutical distribution companies installations throughout the United Kingdom.

With a particularly challenging flooring project in one of the main warehouse and distribution hubs’ in the South West, the main contractor contacted Surface Systems Ltd due to our reputation in delivering first class flooring solutions and our technical expertise in solving complex flooring problems.

The end client was local to us, being only seven miles away from our head office and warehouse facilities in Devon. Having met on site we agreed the specification with the main contractor and the end client for the Packing & Distribution Facility. This project provided a challenge for our technical team as there were two floors at differing levels requiring a permanent ramp to be incorporated. During the preparation phase it became evident that the sub-floor below the intersection of the two floors was rotten where moisture had penetrated through over many years. To overcome this situation, we broke out the defective floor back to a dry surface and treated with a moisture tolerant epoxy primer prior to infilling with polymer modified screed. The mixture for this screed has been developed by our company over the years where specialist dried sand and granite is mixed with an SBR Polymer in a Pan Mixer in 100kg mixes. This mix enables us to return to site within three to five days due to the increased speed of cure compared to normal concrete.  Furthermore, with the walls being constructed of local stone with little or no damp proof membrane there was a problem with moisture ingress in some areas. Our experienced team of layers decided to treat the walls in these areas with an epoxy sealer to prevent damage to the new floor while curing took place.
